Avant-garde shoe designer Louisa Osei graduated from Kingston University with a degree in Product and Furniture design in 2008. After which she undertook two short courses related to footwear at the London College of Fashion. Her London-based shoe brand Ashanti Lou launched in 2011.
The name Ashanti Lou comes from her family heritage of the Ashanti region of Ghana. She draws inspiration from the use of contrasting materials, vibrant colours and kente fabric. The Ashanti Lou emblem is Ananse Nontan, which translates to 'Spider's Web', is an Adinkra symbol meaning 'Creativity and Wisdom'. With a grandfather architect and an interior designer mother, Osei has acquired a flair for design, by capturing the essence of art, fashion and graphics to create what one would call the epitome of outlandish footwear.
Louisa commands a design philosophy focused on extroversion with a play on unique shapes, each shoe is handcrafted in London using the most superior of materials perfect for runway couture or the red carpet.
More importantly Ashanti Lou, is trying to promote fashion fused with a social conscious. A percentage of every shoe sold will be donated to a charitable cause. Ashanti Lou footwear is a gift to yourself and and even bigger gift to someone in a less fortunate situation.
